“Natacha and Mariah’s wedding ceremony and reception were held at Mariah’s mother’s house, which is beautifully situated on Lake Meech in Gatineau Park, QC, Canada. It made for such beautiful scenery. There was a 70% chance of rain and boy were we all keeping our fingers crossed. The rain held off until after the ceremony and formal portraits were taken. This is one of the most beautiful weddings that I have ever been to. The scenery was gorgeous and the many rustic details were just stunning. I’m a HUGE fan of rustic details and this wedding had no shortage of it. It was my Pinterest dream wedding to shoot.
There were tree trunk cupcake stands, globe string lights, a gorgeous DIY birch ceremony arch, a canoe cake topper, burlap ‘Just Married’ and ‘Thank you’ signs, blackboard and wooden signs, DIY wooden coasters, several real canoes, a lakefront location and woods.”
In the Words of the bride, Mariah:
“Our wedding day was very special for many reasons. A big one was the location. We were fortunate enough to get married at Meech Lake, in the backyard of my childhood home, right on the water. This really added to the intimate outdoors/nature theme that we wanted. My partner and I were able to get away for a few minutes after the ceremony by escaping in a canoe. Being able to have a few private moments, floating in the middle of the lake, to just reflect on our union was priceless. We got engaged on a canoe trip, so it was fitting that there was a canoe on our wedding day.
We had unbelievable support from our family and friends who helped us with many DIY projects that added a very warm and personal touch to our setting. My brothers hiked into the woods to find birch logs and together, built our archway that we were married under. It was a labour of love. We decided to have an open bar. In the eyes of our guests, best decision ever. We still hear about it! We were very fortunate to have found vendors and services with people who really took the time to hear what we wanted and who delivered exactly what we hoped for. From our awesome DJ who kept the party going late into the night, to our awesome photographers who climbed onto the roof of the house to get that perfect group shot. It made the day run smoothly, and provided us with everlasting memories.
We were given a lot of advice throughout the planning process. One thing my partner and I stayed true to was that it was our day and we did what we wanted, not what we thought everyone else wanted. It was easy to get caught up with thinking about what everyone else wants for your day, but no one knows better than the couple getting married. Hire a wedding planner or designate one person to oversee the day. Every wedding needs that one person who knows what’s going on and can address any issue that may arise so that the bride/groom don’t have to get involved. This person should also not be a close family member or a guest, as it is a full time, demanding job. No matter how well a wedding is planned, there will always be crises. The best advice we were given, was to make sure you and your partner take at least 10 minutes to step away in private and just be alone with one another. The day goes by in a flash, but those 10 minutes can last forever.”
